This is hilarious.

Not the fact that he's doing it or whatever, but the fact that:

1. People care.
2. We are literally in the middle of a war AND a huge economic crisis, two big reasons he's in office in the first place, and people are okay with him taking time out to fill out a bracket.
3. The American people have already said they think he's focusing on too much, so to see him on TV filling out a bracket is totally going to help that image.
4. If this was Bush, all we'd hear about was how he isn't focused on the nation's problems, but since it's Obama and we like him, it's "cool."

A fucking break you may have.

He's not "just like an average person," he's not remotely like one, and it's frankly ridiculous for you to claim that. Average people don't publish best selling books, go to Harvard Law, get elected to the senate and then the Presidency. Him being more relatable than Bush doesn't make him more of an average person than Bush, or anyone other President we've ever had. Name the last non-rich guy without connections to be elected President. Take your time, you'll probably have to go back pretty far.

Whether he does or doesn't think he's better than America doesn't really have anything to do with it, and you really wouldn't know if he did. He has an army of PR people to make sure that you think of him whatever will get you to like him best. Thinking you're "better than America" wouldn't do that, so obviously he's not going to come off that way, whether he does or doesn't think that.

I don't really care how much time he took out of his day. The fact remains that the American public believes he's already stretched too thin. Again, were this not The Coolest President That Ever Did Live, he'd be getting slammed for doing something like this. The only reason he's not is because he's Barak Obama, and he gives people "hope."

I hope a rational person wouldn’t have criticized Bush for filling out a bracket. Unfortunately Photo-ops are a huge part of the president’s day. What is the difference between this and Bush hosting little league games on the White House lawn.

It's a shame ANYONE considers this viable news.

Right, Were talking about him taking time to fill out a bracket during an economic crisis, but not about what got us into the crisis. Or how were going to get out.

Edit: I mean the media in general.

I don't think Patrick intended for a political discussion. He never said "this is why hes the best political president." The word "cool" in no way implies that.

Having said that, George Washington was the coolest president ever in all seriousness.

You know his greatest source of income has been that book deal. After becoming the first African American president of the Harvard Law Revue, Crown Publishing offered him the deal. They had also offered similar deals to several past Revue presidents. Was he supposed to turn it down?

Ya I didn't mean for this to turn sour. The entire thing took 15 minutes and he had meetings before and after.

And this isn't like the first time he picked a bracket- he picked one last year on the campaign trial and it also made news- he's a true college basketball fan and I appreciate his passion for the sport.

What?

I didn't say he shouldn't have gone to Harvard or written books or made money. Simply that these are facts about him that separate him from me. I am vastly more "average" than Obama will ever be.

Nate - while he's not an average person, even the President deserves some free time. Obama is obviously a sports nut, let him take a little break every once and a while. Lord knows other presidents have taken time offthe job as well - and for good reason, given the stress level of the position.

Now, do I agree this needs to be on espn? No, that's a little ridiculous.

Btw - UNC won't win in all. Watch out for Pittsburgh.

Even the president needs some down town. Frankly, I'd rather have a multi-tasker in that office than someone who is incredibly single-minded. I know if I had that job, I would need moments like this bracket example to help keep my sanity and prevent me from losing my fucking mind.

That's my biggest problem with this. I don't give a shit if he fills out a bracket, but the fact that he took the time to make this 'news' is what pisses me off. The media needs to get off his balls. Cover something that he does that is meaningful. Just like the other day when CNN had a story on with the headline 'The First Lady backs her President'. No shit. Really?

Welcome to the decline of today's news! I guess I'm not going to talk about Obama on Leno...
